Working with various international organizations, Monique has brought her knowledge of parliament and politics to assist in areas of the world where democracy is in jeopardy or where countries are working to entrench democratic institutions.

As a staffer, legislator, cabinet minister and diplomat, Monique understands—and can advise on—governance and government issues. As House Leader, and member of both the Board of Internal Economy and Treasury Board, she understands how Canadian government is run and has a keen understanding of the US state and federal systems.

Ontario is the largest trading partner for 18 US states. As negotiations of the new NAFTA ramped up—and as implementation unfolds—Monique has served as an interlocutor at both the state and federal levels and understands the many issues. She also took the lead in Canada’s fight against “Buy America” protectionist legislation in various states.

As a major proponent of one of the first P3 (AFP) infrastructure projects in Ontario, Monique saw the model through its growing pains. Having promoted the Ontario model throughout the US at both state and federal level, Monique has also served as a panellist at international, US and Canadian infrastructure conferences.
